Shamrock da Block!

I am getting back from a much needed four day weekend. Thursday I left Athens to go to DC to surprise my parents. Let's just say the looks on their faces were hilarious when I rang the doorbell. It took both of them a little while to process that I was in fact in DC.

1. I got to spend QT with my dog nephew Shadow
2. I made Mom break her "No wine on weekdays" rule. It's a stupid rule anyway.
3. I got presents from my parents! New arm pretties from Alex + Ani.

Friday I headed down to Richmond for a reunion with some sorority sisters! There was a St. Patty's Day block party and Briana hosted brunch before we all headed downtown.

1. Yummy cupcakes, Irish soda break and a Rolo pot of gold.
2. Shamrock straws and Bud Light. Keepin it classy.
3. I miss these girls every day.
4. Making new friends!

Some highlights:
1. Yes this lady wore a green bikini with a cut up t-shirt on top. Out in public.
2. Meet Tess. The garden gnome, and new addition to Briana's apt.
3. Bud Light out of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle shot glasses.

Super fun weekend with super fun people. Now back to reality.

Weekend Recap

Saturday we went to the Georgia Theater Rooftop bar and had some drinks
I ended the evening with some Ben and Jerry's of course.
Sunday we cleaned all day, but the weather was so great I went for a run, and passed these rocks by the old Navy School.

It's a short week for me. I am off Thursday and Friday, going to see some of my best friends in VA. Can't wait!!

Spontaneous Weekend

What happens when your best friend calls on Wednesday night and says she has Friday off and she is coming to visit? You have a spontaneous weekend!!!!! And let me say this was a much needed girls weekend. My friend Briana drove down from VA to spend the weekend with me!

We went shopping downtown... in some of the more eclectic Athens boutiques!

She rand the Chapel Bell...

We went to Terrapin....

And listened to an "interesting" band...

Then we had brunch at my favorite place in town....

I got the Crab Benedict...

She got stuffed French Toast...

Then the rest of Sunday was spent with Gigi watching TV. (Kyle and I caught up on our TiVo after Briana left, I was so excited about the season premiere of The League. Does anyone else watch this show on FX? It is HILARIOUS!)

Thank GOD for such a relaxing, laid back, easy weekend.

Impromptu Karaoke

I know I have said that I am not spontaneous. Well I might have to take that back. Kyle and I went downtown for dinner and ended up staying out all night and signing karaoke. Yeah, still not 100% sure how it happened.

Friends+beer= karaoke

Picking some good tunes

I love how happy he looks in these pictures!

Let's just say the guys were GREAT singers!

Athens Craft Beer Fest

K and I went to the first Athens Craft Beer Fest last Sunday. It was held at the Hotel Indigo and was sponsored by Trappeze bar. It was wonderful fall weather and there was some great bluegrass music. We had a lot of fun. I think my favorite new find was the Heavy Seas- The Greater Pumpkin Ale, it was DELICIOUS and I love Terrapin Peaotch.

We went to Clocked before heading to the Hotel Indigo. I had a WONDERFUL grilled cheese sandwich, amazingly this was my first time at Clocked.

2oz pours will get you in trouble EVERY TIME!

All in all it was a lovely Sunday afternoon. And K I think had the MOST fun of anyone attending.

Pumkpin Bread and Okkervil River

Yesterday was not a typical Wednesday. I woke up feeling less than stellar and skipped out on the morning gym routine with K. All day long I was just not feeling myself. At lunch I went to lay down in my apartment and started perusing Pinterest.  I love Pinterest! It took me awhile to get the hang of it and actually understand what it was, but I have become a lover of pinning. I promised myself that if I was going to "pin" food then I was going to have to attempt it.
Enter attempt #1 Cream Cheese Swirl Pumpkin Bread

I had to drive to 4 different grocery stores in Athens to find 100% pure canned pumpkin. Thank goodness for the Piggly Wiggly! Yes that is not a phrase I ever envisioned myself saying, but that was the only store that had my canned pumpkin. So I stocked up! I got so excited to make this that I miraculously was healed and didn't feel icky anymore. OH THE POWER OF BAKING!
While I was in line paying for all my baking goodies the lady behind me asked if my kids were having a bake sale. HOLD THE PHONE! I look old enough to have kids?! YIKES sister! I politely said, no I just like baking a lot. She then replied "I want to come live with you!"

I think the bread turned out lovely! K and I ate a piece and then I brought the rest into work this morning to share with my students and coworkers. The recipe makes two loaves. So I am saving the other loaf for our brunch tailgate this Saturday.
After my baking adventure K and I had a concert to attend at the 40 Watt last night. Okkervil River. Great show. Exactly what I needed for the mid week pick me up!

On my way downtown I got a call from one of my best friends! She works in Greek Life and is about to start Panhellenic Recruitment on her campus. My thoughts are with you B! You are going to do GREAT! You always do! Love you!
