So I have been in recovery mode since my weekend trip! I guess I just had way too much fun. First stop: Greensboro, NC! I left right after work Friday and drove to Greensboro. So excited I got to spend time with my friend Anna! She left Athens last summer and I have missed her! I was happy to finally see what her new life was like in NC!
I'm looking kinda tired!
When I got to Greensboro I met up with Anna and some of her work friends. I love meeting fellow student affairs colleagues! Anna and I actually stayed up until 4am talking and catching up on life, I swear we could probably talk forever! I had to be up early the next day to hit the road. But before I left we went to breakfast at one of my favorite North Carolina establishments: Bojangles! No joke, best fried chicken!
And you can't forget BoBerry Biscuits!
Breakfast of champions!
After my breakfast I got back on the road to go to Richmond VA! Briana (you might remember her from
Hangout), one of my best friends from undergrad, lives in Richmond and I was excited to spend time with her. I love the area she lives in right by Virginia Commonwealth University. Our friend Denise came down from Northern VA to visit too! I hadn't seen her since my wedding! I don't get to see my Virginia friends much anymore, so any chance I can get away from GA I try to visit!
Out to dinner!
Briana, Jason and Denise Downtown!
Flower lady outside the bar, love the hat!
So after the night out Briana had a surprise for us in the morning. She wouldn't tell us anything other than we were going somewhere that was a Richmond institution. We pulled up to a building that was kind of unmarked, and standing outside was a woman that looked very much like a man. Then it hit me.... we were at Drag Brunch! Briana took us to Godfrey's, which is a Drag Show/ Sunday Brunch! I have many Richmond friends that have talked about this place and I have always wanted to go!
We sat at the bar.
So taking pictures was kind of hard. Godfrey's is literally a bar they convert for Sunday brunch. The drag queens don't have tons of room to perform, and we were sat at the bar with our backs to the show so we had to turn around, but it was still so much fun! These were the BEST DRAG DIVAS I have ever seen. And I have been to several shows in the past, nothing like this. They were gorgeous and had the BEST outfits. I strongly suggest if you are ever in Richmond on a Sunday morning to try this place! You need to make a reservation in advance because seating is VERY limited, but it is totally worth it!
This one was my fav!
After the show we went back to Briana's apartment and watched football. Monday morning we went out for breakfast in Carytown at Weezie's Kitchen. Delicious! I then hit the road and headed back to Ath. I was supposed to make a stop in Raleigh, but unfortunately my weekend caught up with me and I wasn't feeling well and decided to head straight home. (Savannah, I owe you a visit!) All in all I had a fabulous weekend seeing old friends! No road trips planned for awhile, so I'm glad I could sneak this one in!
