Impromptu Karaoke

I know I have said that I am not spontaneous. Well I might have to take that back. Kyle and I went downtown for dinner and ended up staying out all night and signing karaoke. Yeah, still not 100% sure how it happened.

ZTA Day, Georgia Peach style!

I spent this past Saturday at the Georgia Zeta Day. Zeta Day is a national event. Each state picks a day for all their collegian and alumnae chapters to get together for a day full of sisterhood, fundraising and recognition. Joining ZTA was one of the best decisions I have ever made. My sorority was pivotal in my development in college and has continued being a major part of my life as an alumna. Georgia has a HUGE Zeta Day with over 1000 participants!

Diane, Mary Frances and I representing Athens Alumnae! Diane and I are co-presidents of the Athens Alumnae chapter!

Gamma Pi, Zeta Band!

Diane and I had a great time hanging out with the Gamma Pis and other alumnae. There are so many great Zetas across the state of Georgia, it really makes you proud!

I won an award! Zeta Lady for Alumnae Province 7A. That is me giving a hug to one of my favorite Zetas EVER!

My pretty pendant, Zeta Tau Alpha in the shape of a lady!

I was really proud of the chapter I advise!!! They won top awards for their programming and fundraising! They were also recognized for all the service they complete. They are a great chapter. I am so happy to advise them and work with some great undergraduate women!
There was a special surprise at the end of Zeta Day. Rapper DJ Scrilla made an appearance and gave a performance. You might remember him from my Bid Day post. The girls LOVE him! The crowd went wild! Great Zeta Day surprise!

DJ Scrilla rapping about Georgia Zetas!

Everyone rushing the stage! Gamma Pi LOVES DJ Scrilla!

It really was an awesome Zeta Day. Next year is in Savannah, and I couldn't be more excited!

Photo Challenge: Catch up DAY ONE

So I saw everyone doing the fat mum slim photo challenge, and was inspired to try myself! I have never done a link up photo challenge, so I thought why not? Yes, I am starting a day late. February is a short month, so hopefully I can complete this challenge.

Day 1: Your View

My view most of the day is my computer at my desk. I have my favorite picture of me and Kyle on my desk and my favorite picture of me and my little brother when we were way younger. Pretty standard desk.

I thought I would add my second "view", I have a pretty huge window in my office. I get to look at the pump room, BUT at least I have a window!

I am going to try and catch up later today and post the day two photo: words.

And speaking of photos! My mom called me this morning and wanted me to go to Yahoo.com and check out this story. Apparently a bride's father got sick and so they photo-shopped their dad into some of the wedding photos! HILARIOUS! This one is my fav:

Good Friends and Drag Divas!

So I have been in recovery mode since my weekend trip! I guess I just had way too much fun. First stop: Greensboro, NC! I left right after work Friday and drove to Greensboro. So excited I got to spend time with my friend Anna! She left Athens last summer and I have missed her! I was happy to finally see what her new life was like in NC!

I'm looking kinda tired!

When I got to Greensboro I met up with Anna and some of her work friends. I love meeting fellow student affairs colleagues! Anna and I actually stayed up until 4am talking and catching up on life, I swear we could probably talk forever! I had to be up early the next day to hit the road. But before I left we went to breakfast at one of my favorite North Carolina establishments: Bojangles! No joke, best fried chicken!

And you can't forget BoBerry Biscuits!

Breakfast of champions!

After my breakfast I got back on the road to go to Richmond VA! Briana (you might remember her from Hangout), one of my best friends from undergrad, lives in Richmond and I was excited to spend time with her. I love the area she lives in right by Virginia Commonwealth University. Our friend Denise came down from Northern VA to visit too! I hadn't seen her since my wedding! I don't get to see my Virginia friends much anymore, so any chance I can get away from GA I try to visit!

Out to dinner!

Briana, Jason and Denise Downtown!

Flower lady outside the bar, love the hat!

So after the night out Briana had a surprise for us in the morning. She wouldn't tell us anything other than we were going somewhere that was a Richmond institution. We pulled up to a building that was kind of unmarked, and standing outside was a woman that looked very much like a man. Then it hit me.... we were at Drag Brunch! Briana took us to Godfrey's, which is a Drag Show/ Sunday Brunch! I have many Richmond friends that have talked about this place and I have always wanted to go!

We sat at the bar.

So taking pictures was kind of hard. Godfrey's is literally a bar they convert for Sunday brunch. The drag queens don't have tons of room to perform, and we were sat at the bar with our backs to the show so we had to turn around, but it was still so much fun! These were the BEST DRAG DIVAS I have ever seen. And I have been to several shows in the past, nothing like this. They were gorgeous and had the BEST outfits. I strongly suggest if you are ever in Richmond on a Sunday morning to try this place! You need to make a reservation in advance because seating is VERY limited, but it is totally worth it!

This one was my fav!

After the show we went back to Briana's apartment and watched football. Monday morning we went out for breakfast in Carytown at Weezie's Kitchen. Delicious! I then hit the road and headed back to Ath. I was supposed to make a stop in Raleigh, but unfortunately my weekend caught up with me and I wasn't feeling well and decided to head straight home. (Savannah, I owe you a visit!) All in all I had a fabulous weekend seeing old friends! No road trips planned for awhile, so I'm glad I could sneak this one in!

What I am LOVING Wednesday!

Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a great week so far! Is it just me or is this week DRAGGING its feet?! Maybe it is because I am so excited about my weekend travel plans!!! In order to kill some time let's cover some things I am LOVING this Wednesday!

1. My John Wind initial necklace! Loving this addition to the jewelry collection.

2. Bigelow Green Tea K-cups for my Keurig! I love my coffee, but these are quickly replacing my coffee craving!

3. Would you rather Wednesday... In undergrad my junior year roommate had a Would You Rather? book and she used to ask questions from before we went to bed. That book could keep us entertained for hours, and you learn a lot about someone when they are asked "would you rather" situations! I got a card game version of "Would You Rather" when I went to the beach in '09 and I love it.

I started a #wouldyouratherwednesday on my Twitter account! Follow me to join the fun on Wednesday! Today's question: Would you rather have your cell phone ring function set on airhorn or taser?

4. My cookie press, aka the COOKIE GUN! My parents gave me some gift cards for Christmas and I finally purchased my cookie gun! Yes I call it a gun because it shoots cookie dough. I love it and will post later on my first use experience!

5. I love all kinds of music but my Avett Brothers station on Pandora plays the most while at work. This week I discovered the album Pickin on Coldplay, which is bluegrass covers of Coldplay songs, GENIUS!

6. In order to achieve my resolution for healthy eating I have adopted a food journal approach to tracking what I eat! There are so many great apps and templates out there, and I have so far seen a change in the choices I make. It helps me visualize what I am consuming in a day. I like the "Calorie Counter" by fatsecret.com and if you Google 'food journal templates' there are a lot that come up!

7. WEEKEND TRAVEL PLANS! I am so so so excited for my mini (solo) road trip this weekend. I am headed to Greensboro, NC Friday night to stay with my first Athens friend (who moved last summer!) then heading to Richmond VA to see Briana V. and some other great friends and then finally on the way back to ATH I will stop in Raleigh to see one of my former students turned good friend. I can't wait!
